Packaging Containers & Closures

Suitable for detergent bottles, cosmetic bottles, beverage bottles, chemical packaging containers, plastic pails, plastic bottle caps, thermoformed packaging, and other plastic containers. Variations in the wall thickness and structure of packaging containers may affect the final color and opacity. Polytech provides tailored masterbatch solutions based on the container material, wall thickness, target color, and opacity requirements, helping address issues such as uneven color, insufficient coverage, color streaks, color spots, and batch-to-batch color variation.

01Color Match & Assembly

Bottles and caps can meet the same color target yet look different when assembled. Differences in resin, wall thickness and gloss all affect the result. Selecting a masterbatch suited to each component helps achieve a closer match, while good pigment dispersion helps reduce visible specks and streaks.

02Opacity & Dosage

White containers present another challenge: thin sections may still look translucent even after the masterbatch dosage is increased. A suitable white masterbatch should provide the required opacity at a practical dosage in the actual container. Where the contents need protection from light, the finished packaging must also be tested.

03Dimension & Closure

For caps and closures, a change in color formulation can affect shrinkage and warpage, potentially altering how the cap fits and seals. Masterbatch trials should therefore check dimensions and closure performance as well as color, using the intended production resin and molding conditions.

Representative Case Study

Achieve optimal opacity in HDPE bottles cost-effectively with our tailored white masterbatch solutions that eliminate shoulder translucency without inflating material costs.
  • Challenge

A white HDPE bottle showed visible translucency around the shoulder. Increasing the masterbatch dosage raised material costs without adequately improving coverage.
  • Solution

Check wall thickness first, then trial a white masterbatch suited to HDPE. Compare opacity at different dosages using the same resin, bottle weight and molding conditions.
  • Expected Outcome

Meet the bottle’s opacity requirements at a practical dosage, with performance and cost confirmed through production trials.
